I’m not going to get as far into the politics of ethanol here as I’d like to, but I’ll say that I do have mixed feelings about the alternative fuel. On one hand, it lessens our dependence on foreign oil and can there’s virtually no limit to achieving high production levels. The bad part is that there are a billion starving children on this planet and according to agricultural expert Lester Brown, “the grain required to fill an SUV’s 25-gallon tank with ethanol just once will feed one person for a whole year.”
Read more about ethanol at my friend David Anderson’s green blogsite, Greenoptions.com.
I took this photo today when I filled up my company car with E85 at Pearson Fuels on El Cajon Boulevard.

The office building where I work is competing for certification in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. There are a number of things employees have to do to help achieve the rating, such as using recycled paper, recycling used toner cartridges, and turning off computers when they’re not in use. Another one is recycling batteries. Not sure when the last time the battery receptacle in the hallway was emptied, but I’m guessing it’s been awhile:

Hard to believe the trashcan is about 2 feet tall!
